UN Youth Delegate Program

The Spring 2007 delegates at the UN.
The IWDC UN Youth Delegate Program invites high school seniors
from Cuyahoga County, Ohio, to serve on IWDC's Official Delegation
to the United Nations Special Sessions, annual meetings, global
conferences, and expert group meetings - based on the philosophy
that mentoring experiences can provide the necessary first-hand
learning opportunities to young women to help them determine
their careers - with a specific focus on encouraging them
to consider foreign affairs and diplomacy.
At the Conferences, students interact with official government
delegations from the member nations, meet with NGO representatives
about diverse issues around the world, and participate in
caucuses and regional meetings for the duration of each conference.
Students are selected based on the recommendations of their
principal and faculty, scholastic achievement, participation
in Model United Nations, membership in the Junior Council
of World Affairs, and ability to speak a second language.
Six extraordinary high school students are selected to attend
UN conferences each year, 3 in the Spring and 3 in the Fall.
